Senate Legislative Activity

The Senate will convene today, Monday, July 28, at 2:00 pm. After any leader remarks, the Senate will proceed to Executive Session to resume consideration of Executive Calendar #929—Pamela Harris to be United States District Judge for the Fourth Circuit, post-cloture. The time until 5:30 pm will be equally divided, and at 5:30 pm, the Senate will proceed to a vote on confirmation of the nomination. The Senate will then repeat this process for confirmation of each of the following, with up to five roll call votes, but with several expected to be confirmed by voice vote:

  1. Executive Calendar #915 – Elliot Kaye to be a Commissioner of the Consumer Product Safety Commission for a term of seven years from October 27, 2013;
  2. Executive Calendar #916 – Elliot Kaye to be Chairman of the Consumer Product Safety Commission;
  3. Executive Calendar #913 – Joseph Mohorovic to be a Commissioner of the Consumer Product Safety Commission for a term of seven years from October 27, 2012; and
  4. Executive Calendar #744 – Brian McKeon to be a Principal Deputy Under Secretary of Defense.

After this Friday, August 1, the Senate will be adjourned for August recess.

House Legislative Activity

Today, Monday, July 28, the House will meet at 12:00 pm for morning hour and 2:00 pm for legislative business, with votes being postponed until 6:30 pm. The following legislation is to be considered under suspension of the rules:

  1. H.R. 935 – Reducing Regulatory Burdens Act of 2013;
  2. H.R. 4156 – Transparent Airfares Act of 2014;
  3. H.R. 4838 – To redesignate the railroad station located at 2955 Market Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, commonly known as “30th Street Station”, as the “William H. Gray III 30th Street Station”;
  4. H.R. 3202 – The Essential Transportation Worker Identification Credential Assessment Act, as amended;
  5. H.R. 3846 – The United States Customs and Border Protection Authorization Act, as amended;
  6. H.R. 3696 – The National Cybersecurity and Critical Infrastructure Protection Act, as amended;
  7. H.R. 2952 – The Critical Infrastructure Research and Development Act, as amended;
  8. H.R. 3107 – The Homeland Security Cybersecurity Boots-on-the-Ground Act, as amended;

Tomorrow, Tuesday, July 29, and Wednesday, July 30, the House will meet at 10:00 am for morning hour and 12:00 pm for legislative business. On Thursday, the House will meet at 9:00 am for legislative business, with last votes expected to later than 3:00 pm. Friday, no votes are expected in the House, as it will commence its August recess.

The following legislation is to be considered under suspension of the rules for the balance of the week:

  1. H.R. 4994 – IMPACT Act of 2013;
  2. H.R. 4709 – Ensuring Patient Access and Effective Drug Enforcement Act of 2014, as amended;
  3. H.R. 4626 – SAFE Act Confidentiality and Privilege Enhancement Act;
  4. H.R. 5062 – Examination and Supervisory Privilege Parity Act of 2014;
  5. H.R. 4809 – To reauthorize the Defense Production Act, to improve the Defense Production Act Committee, and for other purposes, as amended; and
  6. H.R. 3896 – To amend the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act to provide a definition of recreational vessel.

The following legislation is also on the House calendar for the balance of the week:

  • H.R. 4315 – 21st Century Endangered Species Transparency Act, Rules Committee Print (Subject to a Rule);
  • H. Res. 676 – Providing for authority to initiate litigation for actions by the President or other executive branch officials inconsistent with their duties under the Constitution of the United States (Subject to a Rule); and
  • Possible Consideration of Supplemental Appropriations related to the situation along the Southern border.
