Legislative Activity
The House Committee on Energy and Commerce will dive further into the world of digital health this week, with a hearing focusing on how to best bridge technological advances with regulatory policies. The Committee released a white paper last week outlining questions to be discussed. Talk of telemedicine has heated up, with Committee Chairman Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI) stating that he would make increasing the use of telemedicine a policy priority for the next few years. Last week, Rep. Michael Burgess (R-TX) agreed with various physician groups when he announced that he believes physician licensure should remain in the jurisdiction of states.

- Monday, June 23: The House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs will hold a hearing titled “Evaluating the Capacity of the VA to Care for Veteran Patients.”
- Tuesday, June 24: The House Committee on Energy and Commerce will hold a hearing titled “21st Century Cures Roundtable: Digital Health Care.” The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions will hold a hearing in roundtable format titled “Moving Toward Greater Community Inclusion – Olmstead at 15.”
- Wednesday, June 25: The House Committee on Energy and Commerce, Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will hold a hearing titled “Medicare Program Integrity: Screening Out Errors, Fraud, and Abuse.” The House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs will hold a hearing titled “VBA and VHA Interactions: Ordering and Conducting Medical Examinations.” The Senate Special Committee on Aging will hold a hearing titled “State of Play: Brain Injuries and Diseases of Aging.”
- Thursday, June 26: The House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, Subcommittee on Research and Technology and Subcommittee on Oversight will hold a hearing titled “Technology for Patient Safety at Veterans Hospitals.”
