Senate Legislative Activity

The Senate will convene today, Monday, March 24, at 2:00 pm. After any leader remarks, the Senate will resume consideration of the motion to proceed to S. 2124, the Ukraine Act. At 5:30 pm, there will be a roll call vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to S. 2124.

If cloture is invoked, and once the motion to proceed is adopted (30 hours after cloture is invoked), or if cloture is not invoked, the Senate will proceed to Executive Session and vote on the motion to invoke cloture on Executive Calendar #581 – Christopher Reid Cooper to be United States District Judge for D.C. If cloture is invoked, there will be up to two hours of debate equally divided and controlled prior to a vote on confirmation of the nomination. This process would then be repeated for the next nomination in the following list:

  • Executive Calendar #582 – M. Douglas Harpool to be United States District Judge for the Western District of Missouri;
  • Executive Calendar #583 – Gerald Austin McHugh, Jr. to be United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania; and
  • Executive Calendar #584 – Edward G. Smith to be United States District Judge for the Easter District of Pennsylvania.

House Legislative Activity

Today, Monday, March 24, the House will meet at 12:00 pm for morning hour and 2:00 pm for legislative business, with votes being postponed until 6:30 pm. The following legislation will be considered under suspension of the rules:

  1. H.R. 1036 – A bill to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 103 Center Street West in Eatonville, Washington, as the “National Park Ranger Margaret Anderson Post Office”;
  2. H.R. 1228 – A bill to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 123 South 9th Street in De Pere, Wisconsin, as the “Corporal Justin D. Ross Post Office Building”, as amended;
  3. H.R. 3060 – A bill to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 232 Southwest Johnson Avenue in Burleson, Texas, as the “Sergeant William Moody Post Office Building”;
  4. H.R. 2391 – A bill to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 5323 Highway N in Cottleville, Missouri as the “Lance Corporal Phillip Vinnedge Post Office”;
  5. H.R. 1451 – A bill to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 14 Main Street in Brockport, New York, as the “Staff Sergeant Nicholas J. Reid Post Office Building”;
  6. H.R. 1376 – A bill to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 369 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Jersey City, New Jersey, as the “Judge Shirley A. Tolentino Post Office Building”;
  7. H.R. 1813 – A bill to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 162 Northeast Avenue in Tallmadge, Ohio, as the “Lance Corporal Daniel Nathan Deyarmin Post Office Building”;
  8. H.R. 3771 – Philippines Charitable Giving Assistance Act, as amended; and
  9. H.R. 4275 – Cooperative and Small Employer Charity Pension Flexibility Act.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, March 25, the House will meet at 10:00 am for morning hour and 12:00 pm for legislative business. On the House calendar for Tuesday is H.R. 2824 – Preventing Government Waste and Protecting Coal Mining Jobs in America, Rules Committee Print (Structured Rule, One Hour of Debate).

On Wednesday, March 26, the House will meet at 10:00 am for morning hour and 12:00 pm for legislative business. On Thursday, the House will meet at 9:00 am for legislative business, and on Friday, no votes are expected. The following legislation is on the House calendar for Wednesday and the balance of the week:

  • H.R. 1459 – Ensuring Public Involvement in the Creation of Natural Monuments Act (Subject to a Rule);
  • Possible consideration of legislation to address physician reimbursement under Medicare; and
  • Possible consideration of legislation to the ongoing situation in Ukraine.
