WRDA Reauthorization

Floor consideration of H.R. 3080, the Water Resources Reform and Development Act of 2013 (WRRDA), is expected in early October but pressing action on the continuing resolution and the debt ceiling may cause some delay.

This Week’s Hearings:

• Tuesday, October 1: The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Panel on 21st Century Freight Transportation a will hold a hearing titled “Perspectives from Users of the Nation’s Freight System.”
• Wednesday, October 2: The House Transportation and Infrastructure Act Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management will hold a hearing on FEMA Reauthorization titled “Ensuring the Nation is Prepared.”

AGENCY ACTIVITY

Last Thursday, September 26, the Department of Transportation’s Research and Innovative Technology Administration announced awards for the 2013 University Transportation Center (UTC) program. The 2013 program provided approximately $63 million in grants to 33 UTCs to perform cutting-edge research on transportation topics, including environmental sustainability and safety. This year’s competition received 142 applications.
