Senate Legislative Activity

The Senate Appropriations Committee will continue to hold hearings on the FY 2015 Budget this week. See this week’s Budget and Appropriations Capital Thinking Blog Post for further details.

The Senate will convene today, Monday, March 31, at 2:00 pm. After any leader remarks, the Senate will proceed to consideration of H.R. 4302, the Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014. The time until 5:00 pm will be equally divided and controlled, and at 5:00 pm, the Senate will proceed to Executive Session to consider Executive Calendar #573, John Owens to be United States Circuit Judge for the Ninth Circuit. The time until 5:30 pm will be equally divided and controlled.

At 5:30 pm, there will be at least two roll call votes (with three roll call votes expected):

  • Confirmation of Executive Calendar #573, John Owens to be United States Circuit Judge for the Ninth Circuit;
  • Expected motion to waive the Budget Act with respect to H.R. 4302 (subject to a 60-vote threshold);
  • Passage of H.R. 4302 (subject to a 60-vote threshold); and
  • Motion to proceed to H.R. 3979, the legislative vehicle for the Unemployment Insurance extension (possible voice vote).

House Legislative Activity

This week, House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) is expected to release his FY 2015 Budget Resolution, and the House Appropriations Committee will continue to hold hearings on the FY 2015 Budget. See this week’s Budget and Appropriations Capital Thinking Blog Post for further details.

The House is not scheduled to be in session today. Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 1, the House will meet at 12:00 pm for morning hour and 2:00 pm for legislative business, with votes being postponed until 6:30 pm. The following legislation will be considered under suspension of the rules:

  1. Concur in the Senate Amendment to H.R. 4152 – To provide for the costs of loan guarantees for Ukraine;
  2. S. 2183 – United States International Programming to Ukraine and Neighboring Regions;
  3. H.R. 2413 – The Weather Forecasting Improvement Act of 2014, as amended;
  4. H.R. 4005 – Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Act of 2014, as amended;
  5. H. Con. Res. 92 – A bill to authorize the use of the Capitol Grounds for the National Peace Officers Memorial Service and the National Honor Guard and Pipe Band Exhibition;
  6. H. Con. Res. 88 – A bill to authorize the use of the Capitol Grounds for the Greater Washington Soap Box Derby; and
  7. S. 1557 – Children’s Hospital GME Support Reauthorization Act of 2013.

On Wednesday, April 2, and Thursday, April 3, the House will meet at 10:00 am for morning hour and 12:00 pm for legislative business. On the House calendar for Wednesday and Thursday is H.R. 2575 – Save American Workers Act of 2014 (Subject to a Rule).

On Friday, April 4, the House will meet at 9:00 am for legislative business. On the House calendar for Friday is H.R. 1874 – Pro-Growth Budgeting Act of 2013 (Subject to a Rule).
